Lake Urmia which sits on the border between West and East Azarbaijan, is a salt lake that has almost completely dried up. The lake has over 100 small and big islands and is the habitat of a crustacean known as Artemia urmiana or brine shrimp. The lake’s water was considered good for skin diseases. The lake was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
