Abali Ski Resort is located about 57 kilometers northeast of Tehran in Abali city. Established in 1953, it is the oldest ski resort in Iran and where the first mechanical ski lifts were installed in the country.
One of the seven ski resorts in and around Tehran, Abali is located 25 kilometers from Mount Damavand, 51 kilometers from Shemshak, 53 kilometers from Darbandsar, 62 kilometers from Tochal and 63 kilometers from Dizin.
With an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level, this ski resort is most similar to Tochal Ski Resort in Tehran. This ski resort has a snow depth of one to two meters and a vertical drop of 250 meters. The lowest piste at Abali is at an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level.
The slopes of Abali are suitable for beginner skiers, snowboarders and Alpine skiers. This ski resort has 1 cable car, 5 platter lifts and 3 button lifts which transport skiers to an altitude of 2,650 meters. The ski season at Abali starts from December and ends in March.
The popular activities during the snow season at Abali Ski Resort include ski mountaineering, snowboarding, off-piste skiing, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and wakeboarding on snow. Many Iranians come to this resort to learn how to ski in winter or to spend a day in the snow with family and friends.
Abali Ski Resort has one hotel, a number of chalets and three restaurants. The Abali Hotel, a 75-year-old structure located in the city, is a popular attraction and National Heritage Site.
This resort has a ski school where lessons are available for beginner and intermediate level skiers. Ski lessons are also available for kids. The resort has ski equipment rentals for those who do not wish to bring their own gear.
Due to the pleasant weather of Abali, lively traditional and modern restaurants and its proximity to several natural springs, the resort is a popular destination in the spring and summer. During the warmer months of the year, visitors can use the resort’s horse riding and tennis facilities. Hiking, trekking and paragliding are also popular activities after the snow season.
Abali city, where the resort is located, is the birthplace of the famous Abali Dough, the most famous brand of carbonated yogurt drink popular in Iran. The water from the natural springs in the city is used in the production of Abali Dough.
