The Arg Gate of Semnan was originally the northern gate of the city’s citadel. Built during the reign of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar (1772–1834), the gate has a northern and southern façade. The gate stands 7 meters tall and has intricate tilework that bear images of Qajar soldiers, lion and sun and the battle scene of mythical hero Rostam and the White Demon of Mazandaran. Arg Gate has white Nastaleeq inscription on a Persian blue background. The gate also has two thick wooden doors with iron studs. Arg Gate was registered as a National Heritage Site in 1979.
