Haj Ali Aqa House is one of the biggest roofed, adobe structures in the world. The construction of this residence began in 1757 by a prominent Qajar (1785-1925) merchant named Haj Ali Aqa Zaeemollah Rafsanjani. Located in a 12,000 square meter plot of land, this approximately 130-year-old house has been built in an area of 7,000 square meters. The house includes a water reservoir, mosque, caravanserai, bathhouse, Husayniyah (congregation hall of religious ceremonies) and an icehouse.
The two-story Howz Khaneh (pool house) is the largest covered space in the house and has a massive dome. There is a large rectangular pool in the middle of the pool house which was fed by a Qanat (underground water management system) when the house was inhabited. The second story of the pool house has several rooms and two halls with elaborate stucco decorations featuring Arabesque motifs. The house has magnificent stained glass windows.
