Qom Bazaar consists of two streets covered with a dome. Lightwells in the dome provide light and ventilation for the bazaar. The Bazaar is now separated into the Old and New Bazaars, each of which is one kilometer long.
Some of the structures of the bazaar date back to the Seljuq (1038-1118) and Ilkhanid (1256–1335) eras and have seals from this period. The foundation of the Old Bazaar dates back to before the Safavid era (1501-1736) and many of its structures were built around the Jame Mosque during this period. Additions were made to the Old Bazaar during the Qajar era (1785–1925).
During the reign of Nasser-al Din Shah (1831-1896), Qom Bazaar was expanded and the New Bazaar was established. Additions were also made to the bazaar during the Pahlavi era (1925-1979).
The bazaar includes several mosques namely Mesgarha, Molla Jafar, Imam Hossein, Najarha, Razaviyeh and Pamenar mosques as well as several prayer rooms.
This architecturally significant bazaar has been registered as a National Heritage Site.
