The Jame Mosque of Qazvin is said to have been built by the order of Harun al-Rashid on the ruins of a Sassanid Fire Temple in 807 CE. Additions were made to the mosque over time. The iwans of the mosque were renovated during the Safavid era (1501–1736) and southern iwan went under renovation during the Qajar era (1785–1925). The mosque has inscriptions in Kufic, Nastaleeq and Thulth calligraphy hands. Part of the mosque has been converted into a library. The mosque is still in use today.
