Covering an area of 15,000 hectares, this artificial lake, which has been created behind the Aras Dam, is perhaps the largest of its kind in Iran. The lake is home to sweet water fish such as the common carp, grass carp, zander, silver carp, capoeta, asp and barbel. The lake is also home to the around 3,000 white-fronted goose. There are only 10,000 white-fronted geese left in the world.
