Iwan-e Farhad is a Urartian (860 BC–590 BC) tomb chamber located 7 kilometers west of the city of Maku. A series of 30 stone steps leads to the entrance of the chamber which has been hewn into the mountain. In the summer, tree branches cover this entrance and finding it without a guide is almost impossible. The tomb chamber consists of two interconnected rooms with smooth hand-masoned walls. These walls have arched stoops. There are no windows or lightwells inside the chamber and torches were used to provide lighting for the chamber. This tomb chamber resembles the ancient tombs in Van, Turkey, in terms of size and appearance.
