Toghrol Tower is located south of Damghan’s Mehmandust Village and has a striking resembles to the Toghrol Tower of Rey in Tehran Province. According to historical records, this dodecagonal tower was constructed during the reign of Seljuq ruler Ahmad Sanjar (1085-1157). Toghrol Tower is 35 meters tall and once had a conical dome that has since fallen. This 1,000-year-old tower has inscriptions in the Kufic and Bana’i calligraphy hands as well as intricate brickwork decorations that are still visible from a distance. Locals believe the tower is the resting place of one of the sons of the seventh Shia Imam, Musa al-Kadhim (PBUH) (745-799) but no evidence has been found to support this theory. Toghrol Tower was registered as a National Heritage Site in 1931.
