Imamzadeh Ja’far is located west of Damghan near Chehel Dokhtar (Forty Girls) Tower. This Seljuq era (1038-1118) structure is approximately 1,250 years old and is the mausoleum of Ja’far-one of the sons of the seventh Shia Imam, Musa al-Kadhim (PBUH) (745-799). The mausoleum is a square structure with a brick dome. The black tombstone of Ja’far sits in the middle of the tomb chamber and is covered by a wooden chest with Quranic Verses and the names of the progeny of the prophet of Islam inscribed on it.
