The Portuguese Fortress or Tis Fortress is located 5 kilometers northwest of Chabahar in Tis Village. This strategic fortress dominates the Gulf of Tis and is visible from miles away at sea. Stucco, stone and brick are the main materials used in the construction of the fortress. The architecture of this structure resembles that of the Shah Abbasi Caravanserai of Bisotun built during the reign of Safavid King Suleiman I (1647-1694). There are chambers on three sides of the courtyard and on the side with the Sea of Oman there are two tall towers. The tower on the right has one room, one balcony and a Shahneshin (large room where guests are entertained). The materials used in the construction of these towers and some of the chambers suggest they were built in the Seljuq era (1038-1118) with Safavid (1501–1736) and Qajar (1785-1925) era renovations and decorations. The remains of an Ab-Anbar (water reservoir) are visible in one corner of the courtyard. There is a water well just outside the fortress.
