Kavir National Park is a protected area which spans an area of 600 thousand hectares. The park is located east of Qom River and Salt Lake and west of the Dasht-e Kavir or the Great Salt Desert at the heart of the Iranian plateau. The area has unique animal and plant species.

Kavir National Park was once the habitat of the Persian onager and it is the habitat of the endangered Asiatic cheetah. The most notable animals of this protected area include the striped hyena, leopard, desert lynx, wolf, jackal, fox, wild goat, mouflon, hedgehog, sand fox, golden eagle, vulture, see-see partridge, Persian gazelle, sand cat and stone marten.
