One of the longest rivers in Iran, Aras runs a 10,072 kilometer course before emptying into the Caspian Sea. In 1813, when the Treaty of Turkmenchay was signed between Iran and the Russian Empire, Aras became the border between the two states. The river is home to various fish species and a popular destination for fishing.
